Pirate Power, Disney Adventures (US), May, 2003
typed by Katie, scans from Kimberly E.

Yep, as Legolas in The Lord of the Rings movies, he shoots a mean bow and arrow - and this summer, he'll wow you with his pirate power. We're talking about Orlando Bloom, the star of Disney's new adventure, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.

Orlando tops your list of favorite movie stars. (You sent us 300 letters with questions for him!) We caught up with Orlando on the set of Pirates (out in the ocean)! He told us he was learning to swing on ropes and that he never got seasick.

We shot Orlando an e-mail with some of your questions. Here's what he send back:

Kerrin H., 14 of Smithtown, New York asked:
How did you get into your first movie?
Orlando: I met the director of a film called Wilde and did a cameo [an uncredited bit part] role in it. Three years later, I auditioned for The Lord of the Rings, my first major role.

Jacob F., 13, of Las Vegas, Nevada asked:
How does it feel to be the best character in The Lord of the Rings?
Orlando: Thank you for the compliment! Legolas was a great character, and it was fun to get under his skin.

Joe L., 9, of Reno, Nevada asked:
Did you take archery lessons or did you pretend to shoot with the bow and they put the arrows later?
Orlando: I had the bow and they put the arrows in later. [Hey, Joe L. - nice job figuring that out!]

Lena F., 10, of Torrance, California asked:
If you could have any ability what would it be?
Orlando: The power to heal.

Mary K., 18, of Monte Vista, Colorado asked:
What is the move extreme thing you have ever done?
Orlando: I did the highest bungee jump in New Zealand.

Ally E., 14, of Alton, Wyoming asked:
If you weren't an actor, what would you be?
Orlando: A sculptor.

Lauren W., 11, of Dayton, Ohio asked:
Do you have any trouble learning your lines?
Orlando: Who doesn't?!
